Biography

The birth of John, son of Jonathan Hubburd and Hanah his wife, was recorded at Concord, Massachusetts, on 12 March 1692/3. [1]

John Hubbard was married to Hannah Blood in Concord, Massachusetts, on 14 November 1716.[2]

His second wife was Azubah Moore.

Children

The children of John and Hannah Hubbard (first wife), all recorded at Worcester, Massachusetts, were:[3]

  1. Hannah, born 29 September 1717
  2. Ellen, born 19 December 1718; later called Eleonor
  3. Mary, born 14 [month unknown] 1720
  4. Marcy, born 11 December 1722
  5. John, born 27 August 1724

Eight children of John and his second wife Azubah were recorded at Rutland, Massachusetts. The first daughter, Abigail, was recorded as the daughter of John Hubbard; all the others were recorded as children of John and Azubah Hubburd. For David and subsequent children, the father is identified as "Capt. John." These children were as follows:[4]

  1. Abigail, baptized 6 June 1731
  2. Azubah, born 25 March 1733, died 6 May 1739
  3. John, born 4 May 1736, died 24 November 1736
  4. David, born 14 November 1737, died 10 December 1737
  5. Sarah, born 19 April 1739, died 31 May 1739
  6. Azubah, born 7 January 1740/1, died 31 January 1740/1
  7. Sarah, born 12 October 1744, died 30 December 1746
  8. Mercy, born 23 February 1746/7

In addition, the Rutland Vital Records also lists the death of Jonathan Hubburd, a son of Capt. John and Azubah, on 2 April 1746.[5] and John Hubburd's will also mentions Elizabeth, a daughter of John and Azubah who was not yet 18 as of the date of the will (i.e., born 1743 or later) but apparently was older than the second daughter Mercy (i.e., born before 1747).

His children who were living when he made his will were daughters Hannah, Eleonor, and Mary from the first marriage and daughters Abigail, Elizabeth, and Mercy from the second marriage. Also named in his will was granddaughter Azubah Stevens, daughter of his first daughter Mercy.

The death record in Holden, Mass. Vital Records book (page 218) says:

HUBBARD, Capt. John, Aug. 4, 1761, age 69, G.S.

I haven't found a death record, but I think it's most likely that he died in Rutland, Massachusetts, not Rutland, Vermont or Concord, Mass.
