Biography

An extensive search of contemporary records can find no document to substantiate that this person existed, to show any connection to her supposed husband Silent Bryant , or that she was mother of Eleanor Bryant Owens.

Research Notes

The first record of anyone named "Doniphan" in the Northern Neck area of Virginia was a man named Alexander Doniphan. His arrival in America is uncertain, but by about 1670 he was living in Old Rappahannock County and had married a woman named Amy. He married Margaret Mott in 1691. [1] His third wife was named Susannah. His 1716 will named wife Susannah, sons Mott and Robert, daughters Margaret, Elizabeth, and Anne, [2]

A duplicate of this profile (now merged) claimed, without source, that she was the daughter of Don Alphonse Doniphan (1600-1660) and Margaretta (Manzano) Doniphan (1605-). Lacking a response for sourcing these origins, these parents have been detached.

Seeking a source for Lucy Doniphan, later of Virginia, being born in Plymouth, Devon, England, daughter of Don Alphonse Doniphan and Margaretta Manzano.

Thank you.

Doniphan-61 and Doniphan-2 appear to represent the same person because: Very likely meant to be the same fictional woman

Doniphan-103 and Doniphan-2 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate of disputed spouse of Silent Bryant (who needs disconnecting).

Jeanie, please add the Native Americans project as co-manager (email address below); I'll add the Native Americans adjunct template and ask Eowyn to add PPP; but this person's existence and relationships are being questioned again, and a duplicate has been made. We need the profile protected. Thanks.

Elinor Gollop's maiden name is unknown. She only exists in records as the wife/widow of Robert Gollop and John Owens.

Capt. Alexander Doniphan was probably born in England about 1650. He had three wives, Amy Unknown (children Alexander and Anne), Margaret Mott (children Mott, Robert, Margaret, and Elizabeth) and Susannah Unknown. Capt. Alex died 1716/17, named wife Susannah and children above in will (Headly, ed. Richmond County, Virginia Wills and Inventories, 1707-1719, p. 297). No one named "Lucy" in this time period. There was a later woman named "Lucretia" Doniphan, c. 1750-1800
