1850 census of Polk Co., MO lists him. He is shown as Henry M. Derryberr Vol. 114, Sheet 13, line 36. The Boyd Cem. is south of the high school about 1/2 mile. His and Sarah's grave are near the cedar trees near the north side of the cem. about 2/3s way back (west). They are white mable. He has a CSA marker flat on the ground.

He was a Private in Chisum's Regt., Texas Cavalry Dismounted (also called Partisan Rangers, Stone's Regiment, 38 Partisan Rangers and Crill Miller's Regiment. He is described in an artice about reminiscences of one's going off to Civil War in Plano News paper as "a short stumpy blacksmith was flag bearer" Star Courier on July 26, 1923 edition and verifies Stone's 6th Texas Cavalry as his unit. His military record shows him as in Chisum's Regt. Cav. (Dismounted), Co. D, 2 Regt., Texas Partisan Rangers, raised under the authority given Col. B. Warren Stone on Sept. 5, 1862, first designated 38th Regt. Texas Partisan Rangers, subsequently known as 2nd Regt. Texas Partisan Rangers, Stone's Regt. Texas Cav., Crill Miller's Regt. Texas Dismounted Cav. and finally as Chisum's Regt. Texas Cav. (Dismounted). His Confederate Pension gives his name as Derreberry in one place and Derryberry on the face. He served 3 1/2 years in the Confederate Army.

On 3 Nov. 1858 announcement in Dallas Herald that he had a stray mule at his place in Dallas County . 1860 census of Collin Co., TX, Leanon post office, page 71, lists him as Henry Derbury, age 34, a blacksmith born in TN, wife Sarah age 30 born in IN, children: James T. age 10 born MO (my grandfather), Isaac M. 7 born MO, Joseph W. 6 born MO, Janie M. 2 born TX. Living with them were Aaron Conn age 30 born TN a wagonmaker and Samuel Conn age 27 born TN a wagonmaker.

1871, he was paid $20 for making Sanford Beck's coffin in Plano, TX. Sanford Beck was his son's grandfather-in-law.

An announcement in the Dallas Herald on June 19, 1875, page 1, column 6 of a camp meeting at the Derryberry campgrounds 3 miles east of Plano on 3rd and 4th Sabbaths of August.

1879 deed records of Denton Co., TX K/289 & 341 for him. 1880, 28 Jan. bought 143 acres for $286 in Denton Co., TX (Book N, Page 17. 1881 He shows on deeds in Denton Co., TX (A/57, A/59, V/37. 1884 deed in Wise Co. Applied for Confederate Pension (#06859) in Wise Co., TX. Witnesses to pension application were L. D. Emberton of Murphy, TX, who attested that he had known Henry Alexander Derryberry for 37 years, and S. J. Parker of Sachse, TX who had known him for 37 years also.

1901, 12 Aug. wife applied for his Confederate Pension (#08570, Book 1).

Sarah Chenoweth, his wife, was a daughter of Benjamin Chenoweth and Fanny McKenzie. That is as far as I have the McKenzie line. She was descended from Thomas Chenoweth born 1753, son of Thomas Chenoweth born 1720, son of John Chenoweth from Menage, Cornwall, Wales, born about 1682.

In a letter to me on Nov. 18, 1991, from Myrtle Marie Sanders Pitman, she states "Great grand father Derryberry was English...The Derryberry family are Scotch, Irish, English and Welch." I can reconsile part of this in that the Chenoweths were Welch, the John Salmon was English with a Scottish wife. I suppose the McKenzie may have been Irish. Then these are only the lines from about 1850, the co-mingling of American influence.
