Biography

Ann was the daughter of Rev. Joseph & Lydia (Bowen) Mason, born 28 August 1688 at Swansea in the Province of Massachusetts Bay.

She married first Richard Hale, son of Richard & Mary (Bullock) Haile/Hale, in 1705 at Swansea. Children, recorded at Swansea (Amos was seemingly not recorded, and Aime is almost certainly the daughter recorded in 1713/4):

• Mary b. 10 April 1708
• Amos b. ca. 1710
• Lydia b. 17 March 1711/2
• [Aime] b. 22 January 1713/4
• Nathan b. 9 April 1716
• Bernice b. 23 May 1718

Richard died in 1718.

Anne married second Benjamin Munro after intentions posted at Swansea on 26 January 1727/8. He died in 1732.

Swansea was part of Bristol County ceded to Rhode Island in 1747, part of which became the new town called Warren. On 15 November 1759, Anne Munro of Swanzey quitclaimed to her son Walter Haile all her interest in the portion of 200 acres at Warren formerly called Swanzey, the homestead farm of that belonged to her former husband Richard Haile deceased, which portion did or should have belonged to her son Amos Hail deceased.^[1]

Anne died between 29 November 1766, when she dated a codicil to her will, and 2 February 1767, when the will was proved.^[2] Her will names:

• daughters of her son Walter and of her daughters (all unnamed except for Anne Hulit)

• daughter Mary Barton deceased, and her daughters, unnamed

Research Notes

Many online trees indicate that she died on 29 June 1748. This date is unsourced: it is right around the time her father died, but is not the date he made his will (in which case the appropriate statement is that she died "after" that date), nor the date that he died or that the will was proved. But her will makes clear that she died at the end of 1766 or in early 1767.
