Disputed Origins

There is no evidence that the John Walton who married and lived in Virginia was the son of William Walton (abt.1602-abt.1668) and Elizabeth (Cooke) Walton (abt.1602-1682). They did have a son John baptized April 16, 1628, but Anderson reports that there was no further record of him.[1][2] Aside from having the same name and likely simiar birth year, there is no connection between this John and William's son John; he has been detached from these incorrect parents.

Biography

John Walton Sr.'s birth information is unknown. He married Mary Harris about 1648 in Virginia. Children: Edward Sr., George, John Jr. He died about 1669 in Norfolk, Virginia.

I agree, detach John as son of William and Elizabeth.

Also, the dates for "Mary Harris" here seem confused with the Mary Harris (Harris-1880) who married Thomas Ligon/Lygon (Ligon-76), *unless* she was somehow married twice. (?) There could have been two Mary Harris? We might want to at least scrub her dates (if not detach her).

I suspect the children listed here for John Walton go with some John, but not the son of William and Elizabeth? John Walton with parents unknown?

Just to raise a question. The profile for his father William (Walton-309) notes confusion with the Waltons of Virginia. However, this profile for William's son John (Walton-311) seems to belong to a Virginia Walton? (As indicated by Virginia as the death places for John and Mary, and the birth places for the children)

Has the wrong son John been inadvertently reattached or merged here? Is there another John who stayed in Massachusetts? Just asking, have no light to shed on the matter.

It certainly looks like they have been conflated. The profile came into WikiTree conflated in 2011, with the parents and birthdate shown, but with the Virginia death info.

I recommend we detach John as a son of these parents, and set the birthdate for this John to be different than John son of William.

I agree that this is the best way to separate the two John Walton's.
