Note John was born in Lower District, Russell now Scott County, Virginia. He was a Gunsmith, Blacksmith and a Farmer. He found the silver he used in his guns in the Leslie County mountains. He made 'hog rifles'. The gun was marked with his initials, J.B.M. Even today there may be one or more gund made by him among the treasures of the mountain people.
Sarah was born near what was then Rocky Mount, the 1st capital (1790-1792) of The Territory of the United States South of the River Ohio in Carter County, Tennessee what is now near Johnson City to Moses Adams and Mary Garland. They area was settled in the 1780's.
They moved to Cutshin Creek in 1847 among the first settlers in what is now Leslie County, built a large log house near his parents' home. Both died in Leslie County, Kentucky.
He and wife Sarah Adams lived in Letcher County thirty-nine years. They had twelve children.
In 1847 John and Sarah moved to unsettled Leslie County. They settled on Cutshin Creek. They were among the first settlers in what is now Leslie County.
