Aaron Aldridge was born in Guilford or Orange County, about 1775, the son of William and Elizabeth Aldridge, who died in Randolph County 1789 and 1793 respectively. He is mentioned as the twelfth child of fourteen in his father's will. Tradition said he was a grandson of James Aldridge, of Maryland, who had brother John that was a ship builder. Nicholas and Martha Aldridge of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, had a son John who was born 1688 and a builder of boats, and son James, born 1706 whose wife was Mary Gassaway. Aaron is found in the land deeds of Randolph and several in Chatham County where he was living in 1800. The exact year he removed to Tennessee is not known, but was in Maury County in 1820. He died there soon after this date and William, his son, was the administrator of his estate.[1]
Marriage and Children
Aaron married about 1792, Nancy in North Carolina. McDaniel is often given as her maiden name however no primary sources have been given to support this. Her maiden name was Watts. From land records we see that she was left land ("for love and affection"} by her father Benjamin Watts, which she and Aaron later sold to Samuel McDaniel, her mother's second husband and therefore Nancy's step-father. From Aaron and Nancy's union the following children were born:[2]
1797, Nov - Deed Book J275 Samuel McDaniel buys land from Aaron Aldridge and wife Nancy, land left to Nancy by her father Benjamin Watts
"Know all men by these presents that I Aaron Aldridge of Chatham County of the State of North Carolina have bargained and alien'd and confirmed unto Samuel McDaniel of the said county and state one certain tract of land lying on Rocky River and containing of 72 acres and fifty three poles the same more or less it being the ____ part of 432 acres which fell to my wife Nancy by her father Benjamin Watts..."
1797, Nov - Deed Book J279 Samuel McDaniel sells land to Aaron Aldridge
1799, May - Deed Book K228 Samuel McDaniel sells land to Aaron Aldridge
Benjamin Watts was Nancy's father and Samuel McDaniel became her step-father after her mother married him after Benjamin Watt's death.

The correct wife is Nancy Watts. John McDaniel and Katherine Rogers did not have a dau Nancy; she is not in his will. Benjamin Watts and Frances Teague (Watts) McDaniel DID have a dau Nancy and she married Aaron Aldridge. The land records show this, which is why Nancy McDaniel will be removed here at some point.
