Biography
Catherine Gibbs, born 17 January 1771, was the daughter of Mary Efland and John Nicholas Gibbs. Nicholas's will, dated 1810, probated 1817, lists his children as: seven daughters, Mary, Sarah, Catherine, Silphenia, Elizabeth, "Sophia's' heirs," and Barbara; sons, John, David, Jacob, George, Nicholas, and Daniel. [1][2]
She married John Holmes in 1791,[3] and they had at least nine children: Mary (1793), Hannah (1794), Sarah (1797), William (1799), Henry (1804), Ann (1806), Joseph (1808), Nicholas Gibbs (1810), and Jane (1812). One of their sons (not stated which one), had a son George W Holmes that married Mary Ann Elizabeth Foust b.abt 1845. [1]
Catherine died on her 86th birthday, 17th of Jan in 1857, at the age of 86, and is buried in Stoner's Churchyard in Orange Co, NC. [4]
