Biography

Sophia Sadowski was the daughter of Antoni Sadowski and Marya Bird, and she was named as Antoni's daughter in his will in 1736.^[1] She was born in about 1711 in New Jersey.

She first married Isaac Johnson, with whom she had one son, John Johnson. She then married William Darling between 1752 and 1758, since her mother, Mary's will named her as "Sofia Jonson" in 1752, and she was named as "Sofia Darling" and wife of William Darling when she became the executor of her mother's will in 1758.^[2]

After leaving first New Jersey, and then Pennsylvania, Sophia settled with her family along Patterson's Creek in what was then Frederick County, Virginia, which later became Hampshire County, Virginia. When her son, John Johnson was given a land patent for 450 acres on Patterson's Creek in 1768, she was, as the widow of Isaac Johnson, given the use of a third of the land during her lifetime.^[3]
