Albeit I would like to say that Jesse Bond, my grandfather, was at King's Mountain, along with his good friend & in-law cousin, Jesse Walton, friends Col. Benj Cleveland, Col. John Sevier & soon-to-be related William & John Walker; he was NOT on the list of "known" individuals that fought at, or died on the way to, King's Mountain. I have made the statement myself before that he most certainly would have been there, given the friends & company that he knew that were known to be present, but there is no "proof". We can only "prove" that Jesse's brother, John, died at Cowee, on the Little Tennessee River (NC), under Col. John Sevier's command AND that Jesse died in the vicinity of Nickajack (lower Cherokee town near Nickajack Cave/Chattanooga). Per family oral history (Warren/Grundy County, TN), Jesse was supposedly trading with the Indians therein. Makes total sense, since his son, William Thomas Bond, (per his RevWar Pension App) came from the area of Greene/Elbert County, GA, up to KY, then settled on the Upper Collins River in what is now Grundy County, TN, right on TOP of the Indian trail that led from Nickajack, through Savage Gulf, Beersheba Springs & down to the "Gift Well" (as the local Indians called it). I have tried to buy "part" of William's land several times, the rest being the NW entrance into Savage Gulf State Natural Area (bought by the Savage family after William Thomas passed away & later deeded to the State of TN). Hope that helps, have tons of information, maps as well.
