Biography

NOTE: The correct parentage of Joanna Luther, wife of Nathaniel Wilmarth, is Rev. Samuel Luther and Mary Abel. This relationship is confirmed in book The Luther Genealogy pg. 70.[1] Here is the explanation quoted below:

"#14. JOANNAH (3) LUTHER, b. Swansea MA 16 Aug 1687, d. Rehoboth 31 May 1706, m.Rehoboth 17 Mar 1704 Nathaniel' 3 ' Wilmarth, son of John' 2 ' and Ruth (Kendrick) Wilmarth (or Wilmoth) of Rehoboth, grandson of Thomas'" and Elizabeth (Bliss) Wilmarth, b. Rehoboth 29 Dec 1677, d. Rehoboth 1747 (aft. Joamiali 3 d. Nathaniel m. 2nd Mary Perry; dien a desc. of the 2nd m., Mary A. Wilmarth, m. Frank 8 Everett Luther [#1929]); confusion reigned for a time as to die true identity of Joannah 3 (Luther) Wilmarth; was she die dau. of Samuel 2 and Mary (Abel) Luther as given, or granddau. through their son Theophilus 3 who married Lydia Kennicutt?; study of Samue (2)s will, which says, "I give to my grand daughter Joanna Wilmarth one two-year old heifer and a young coult, if her father will take it and keep sd. coult for her...", plus extensive research by cousins Helen" (Davis) Pierce, Frances 10 (Best) Litke, Myrtle 12 Salter, and this compiler has resulted in acceptance of the original ascription as given, even though her mother would have been 45 at her birth."

2ndly, in the book The Abell family in America pg. 47, this relationship is affirmed that Joanna Luther, wife of Nathaniel Wilmarth (Wilmartha), was the youngest daughter (and child) of Rev. Samuel Luther and Mary Abell and she was born in Swansea.

Actually a sad story, she was only 17-18 when she was married and died immediately after giving birth to her first child at age 18-19 probably from complications from childbirth.

WILMARTH- Joanna, of Nathaniel and Joanna

Please don't confuse her with her father's sister Joannah (Luther) Hicks who was born around the same time.
