Samuel Doxsee was born about 1812 in Prince Edward County to Sylvanus & Elizabeth Shortt Doxsee. Samuel was born 3rd among his 8 siblings. Samuel married Catherine Howell about 1840 and the married couple resided in Tyendinaga,Hastings county 1861, where they raise a family of 9 children. Samuels' occupation was a yeoman and religion a Wesleyan Baptist. Samuels' grandfather Archelaus Doxsee was a loyalist who relocated with his family from Long Island city,Queens,New York to "The Big Island" where many Doxsees' reside today. Samuels' wife Catherine died in 1874,and Samuel resided with his daughter Sarah Doxsee Brecknridge and her family in Northumberland,Ontario. While Samuel was visiting his children in Syracuse, New York, he died at the residence of his daughter Elizabeth A Doxsee 321 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York. Samuel is interred with his wife at RIVERVIEW CEMETERY located in Shannonville,Tyendinaga,Hastings county,Ontario.

Following the death of his wife Catherine Howell Doxsee, Samuel Doxsee, at some point in time prior to 1884, relocated to Syracuse, Onondaga county, New York where he is listed in the Boyd's Syracuse directory residing with his son Curtis Doxsee who resides at 190 Shonnard Street. Samuel died the following year March 19, 1895 while at his daughter's, Elizabeth A. Doxsee, house located on West Genesee St, Syracuse, New York. Samuel's obit indicates that he leaves the following children: William J of Saginaw, Mich., George, Albert, A. Curtis, Alva A, Elizabeth A, and Mrs Nellie Tenbroeck of this city; John W, Doxsee and Mrs Sarah Breckenridge of Lonsdale and Brighton, Canada. Burial will be at Shannonsville, Canada tomorrow.
