- MIDDAUGH, EL1AS (b. 1755 or 1856) d. 11/17/1819, aged 63y (He was a soldier of the Ametican Revoliution, although it does not so state on the tombstone which is a dark narrow shale about 5 feet in length and laying face-up on the ground in two pieces. It has fine designs and excellent lettering. The elements will shortly destroy it.)
- (Next to the above is a standing shale tombstone with its face entirely eroded away. It could mark the grave of the wife of ELIAS MIDDAUGH.)
- Concerning the Van Bunschoten or Van Benschoten family in America: a ...ÊBy William Henry Van Benschoten, p. 425:
- Ò1551. ii. Elias Middagh m. Sarah Van Aken; he very early removed to neighborhood of Newtown, now Elmira, NY; all trace of him is long since lost. Children, bp. at Mahackemack:
- a. Elizabeth, b. Oct. 29, 1780
- b. Catrina, b. Aug. 18, 1782
- c. Abram Van Aken, b. Apr. 20, 1784Ó
- Charity was supposedly born in 1783, so perhaps Catrina is the same, or otherwise may be a mixup?
