Biography

Sarah A Smith was born in August 1794, in Knox, Tennessee^[1], the daughter of Mary and Robert^[2]. She married David Bowman on May 11, 1815^[3], in Washington, Tennessee^[1]. They had fourteen children together^[1][4][5]. She died on June 13, 1883, in Washington, Tennessee^[6], at the impressive age of 91, and was buried there^[1].

Research Notes

Sarah's Find A Grave memorial gives a birth date of 29 Aug 1791^[1], which is incompatible with one or more of her siblings' birth dates.

Looking closely at the photo of her grave marker, it's difficult to make out her date of birth, At least one Smith researcher^[7] reads the year as 1794, which fits much better with the other dates, and also with census data^[8][9].
