Biography

David Dodson was born on about 1764 in Virginia,. David's year of birth is based on him being at least 21 years of age when he purchased 150 acres of land in 1785.[1] David was the son of Fortunatus Dodson and Margaret (Peggy) Dodson.[2]

David purchased 150 acres of land from Joseph Terry on the 28th of November 1785, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.[3]

David married Frances Fitzgerald on the 12th January 1792 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

David appears in the 1820 Federal census in Maury county, Tennessee. David's household appears as follows: 1 male age 10 thru 15; 1 male age 45 and over; 1 female age 16 thru 25; and 1 female age 45 and over.[4]

David made his last will and testament in Maury county, Tennessee on the 8th day of February 1830. David's will reads as follows: "[corner torn] of God, Amen, I David Dodson of the County of Maury & State of Tennessee Being in a very low state of health, but sound in mind & memory and calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that is appointed for all men once to die. I do hereby ordain constitute and appoint this my last will and Testament in manner and form following, (Vz) First I give & bequeath unto my son Rolliegh Dodson, all of my landed estate, likewise two feather beds & bed furniture, all of my farming utensels, stock & horses of every description, excepting a bay felly which I give to my wife Fanny and also the balance of my bed & bedding, household & kitchen furniture, likewise I do give unto my wife Fanny her choice of two cows out of my stock. Signed Sealed and Declared to be my last will and Testament in the presence of us. This 8th day of February, in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty. I do hereby ordain and appoint Rolleigh Dodson my son, & Fanny my wife my Executor & Executirx. David his X mark Dodson Witnesses: Alexander Moore Sr. [second name unreadable].[5]

David died in 1830 in Maury County, Tennessee.
