Biography

Private Samuel Burns served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: November 14 1861
Mustered out: December 31 1861

Regiment(s): 2nd Mississippi and Alabama Calvary Company G

1850 - living with his parents and siblings in Fayette County, Alabama. Age 17; farmer.[1]

1862 - enlisted in Co. G, 2nd Mississippi and Alabama Calvary in October, at Columbus, Mississippi. Discharged at Columbus in August, 1863.[2]

1867 - married Harriet L.Holladay on December 9 in Jones County.[3]

1870 - living in Sanford County, Alabama with Harriet and three children. Age 36; farmer; born in Alabama.[4]

1880 - living in Lamar County, Alabama, with his (second?) wife Hattie, and five children. Age 46; farmer; both parents born in South Carolina.[5]

1900 - living in Lamar County, as a lodger in the household of John & Toby Blalock. Widower, farm laborer. Birthdate given as February 1836.[6]

1911 - Samuel died on April 11, and is buried in Wofford Cemetery, Lamar County, Alabama.[7]
