1776: Stephen Brooks of Stow; Private Captain Cranston's Company , listed on the 1776 roll, return of men stationed at White Plains. [2]
Family
Stephen married first, Prudence Whetcomb/Whitcomb of Bolton, Massachusetts on July 7, 1779, [1] Prudence was born at Bolton on June 30, 1762, daughter of John Whetcomb and Rebecca (___). [3]
His wife Prudence died at Templeton, Massachusetts in January, 1811. [4]
Stephen married second widow Sarah Whitcomb. Sarah was the daughter of Paul Whitcomb and Rebecca Whitney and the widow of Asa Whitcomb. [4][3]
Stephen died at Templeton on May 21, 1836, aged 80 years. [4] He died intestate and on June 5, 1836 his widow and other heirs declined administration and requested the court appoint Samuel Lee as administrator. The petition was signed by: [5]
Thomas born on July 15, 1788 [4]; died at Stamford, Bennington, Vermont on April 23, 1861 aged 71 years 9 months[8] and is buried in the Houghton Cemetery at Stamford with wife Lucretia Goulding [9] who he married on April 13, 1814. [10]
Luke born on April 15, 1791 [4]; married Meriam Foster at Boston on April 15, 1832. [11]; died in 1856 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Templeton. [12]
Silas born on June 4, 1795 [4]; married widow Sophronia (Chase) Works in March, 1853 [13]; died in 1882 and is buried in the Jamestown Memorial Cemetery, Jamestown, Grant, Wisconsin. [14]
Amos born on October 9, 1797 [4]; died on July 4, 1878 at Templeton. [15]; married Almira B. Grunwood at Templeton on October 2, 1828. [4]
Rufus born on February 13, 1800 [4]; died a widower at Greenfield, Massachusetts on February 25, 1892 [16]; buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Templeton [17] ; married Mary Sawyer, intentions published at Templeton on February 3, 1821. [4]
Sylvanus born on July 16, 1803; died on May 8, 1822. [4]
Rebecca Whitcomb born in 1805; died at Templeton on May 16, 1835. aged 30; married first, Isaac Davis of Phillipston on October 16, 1822; married second, Daniel Hapgood of Stow on October 18, 1831. [4]
Timothy born on August 7, 1807 [4]; married Eliza Ann Goodspeed, daughter of Luther of Hubbarston, Massachusetts about 1829/30; moved to Ohio [18]; died on January 12, 1895.
