Biography

Benjamin was born in 1704. He is the son of Benjamin Wheelock and Huldah (Thayer) Wheelock.

According to Annals of the Town of Mendon, from 1659 to 1880, Benjamin Wheelock was active in town politics. He was a town moderator, served on many committees, as well as a selectman and constable.

In the Name of God Amen:
I Benjamin Wheelock of Mendon in the County of Worcester, and Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, Gentleman Being old and infirm in Body, though of a Perfect mind, and memory, Thanks be given to God therefor. Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body, That He is appointed unto all Men once to Die, Do make this as my Last will and Testament.
That is to Say Principly and firstly of all, I Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that Gave it, and my Body I Recomend to the Earth, to be Buried in a decent and Christian Manner, at the Discretion of my Executor, Nothing Doubting but that I Shall receive the Same again at the General Resurrection by the Mighty Pour of God. And as Touching such Worldly Estate where-with it hath Pleased God to Bless me with in this World I give and Dispose of in the following Manner (viz.)
After my (?), Debts, and funeral Charges be Paid by my Executor, Thereafter mentioned.
Imprimus: I heareby Give and Bequeath to my well Beloved Son Jesse Wheelock all my Home Stead farm with all my Buildings, apportenances, Privileges, and Commodities to the Same. Belonging or in any wise appertaining: to him his heirs and assigns forever. (Provided he the Sd Jesse Whelock Pay out the Several Legacies hereafter mentioned) Bounded as follows (viz.) Beginning at the End of a Stone wall it being a Southerly Corner of the Sd, Jesse Wheelocks Land thence. Eastardly and Bounded Southerly on Land of Coll Silas Wheelock to the End of the Sd Wall, thence Southerly and Bounded westardly on Sd Wheelocks land till it Comes to land of Joseph Allen. Thence Eastardly and Bounded Southerly on the Sd Allens land to a Heap of Stone by Road leading from Capt. Wiliam Thayers to Thomas Darling, thence Northerly and Bounded Eastardly on Sd Road to Thomas Leggs and thence Westardly to a heap of Stones, thence Northerly to a Heap of Stones and a Stake. Thence Eastardly to the End of a Stone wall, Thence Northerly to a heap of Stones by Capt. Wiliam Thayers fence, the four Last Mentioned Lines Bounded on the Sd Leggs Land, Thence Westardly and Bounded Northerly on Sd. Thayers Land to a heap of Stones, Thence Norrtherly and Bounded Eastardly on Sd Land till it Comes to Land Now in the Possession of Joseph Hayard Thence Westardly and Bounded Northerly on Land Belonging to the Sd Hayward till it Comes to the (?) Leading from the Testators Dwelling House to the Meting Hou__. Thence Westardly and Bounded Northerly on the Sd Road till it comes to the Road Leading from Pelithah Penimans Sd to the Meting House, then Southerly and Bounded Westardly on the Sd Road to a Heap of Stones Between two Rocks, thence westardly and Bounded Northerly on Land now in the Possession of Elijah Hayward to a heap of Stones on the Northerly Side of a Rock. Near the Sd Haywards Barn it being the Northwestardly corner of Sd Premises, Thence Southerly and bounded going Westardly on Sd Haywards land to a heap of Stones it being a South Easterdly corner of the Sd Hawards land. Thence Westardly and Bounded Northerly on Sd Haywards Land till it Comes to Land of Doctr Joseph Hews thence Southerly and Bounded Westardly on Sd Hewses land to a heap of Stones it Being the Southwesterly corner of the Sd Premises, then Eastardly and Bounded Southerly on the Sd Hewses land to a heap of Stones By the Sd Road, Thence Bounding Round on the Sd Jesse Wheelock Land Home to the (?) mentioned Bounds. Exsepting all Such Roads ConS?ing Sd Land as have Been Laid out for the Benefit of the Publick. Thus Bounded or otherwise Bounded as shall be made to appear by the Record or Deeds of Conveyance.
Item: I give and Bequeath to my well Beloved Daughter Huldah Peniman and to her Heirs and assigns forever the Best feather Bead that was her own Mothers and Beadstead Cord and two Pillows and Boulster and one Set of Curtains also two coverlids one Blanket Six Sheets and four Pillow Cases, also my Largest Pewter Platter and two Smaller ones and three pewter plates and a Pewter tankard.
Item: I Give and Bequeath to Each of my Grand Children the children of my well Beloved Son Benjamin Wheelock Decd (viz): Benjamin Wheelock Joseph Wheelock Amariah Wheelock and Marval Wheelock to them their Heirs and Assigns forever the Sum of Twenty Shilling to be paid to Each of Them by my Executor As soon as they Shall arrive at Twenty one Years of age, also the Daughters of my afforesd Son Benjamin Wheelock Decd (viz) Sarah Kent, Hannah Wheelock Lois Wheelock Juletta Wheelock and Unice Whelock The Sum of Twenty Shilling to be paid to them Each of them. Their Heirs and assigns by my Executor when They shall arrive at the age of Eighteen Years.
Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Grand Children, the children of my well Beloved Son Jonathan Wheelock Decd (viz) Eleazar Wheelock Lyman Wheelock Alpheus Wheelock and Willard Wheelock to them their Heirs and Assigns forever the some of Twenty Shillings to be paid to them Each of them, their Heirs or their Assigns by my Executor as Soon as they Shall arive to the age of twenty-one years. Also the two Daughters of My afforesd Son Jonathan Wheelock Decd (viz) Dolle Wheelock and Deborah Wheelock Each of them their Heirs and Assigns the Sum of Twenty Shilling to be paid to them By my When they Arive to the age of Eighteen Years By my Executor.
I also Give and Bequeath unto my afforeSd Son Jesse Wheelock his Heirs and assigns for Ever a Seven Acre and a half Right in and unto all the Common and undevided Lands in the Townships of Mendon and Uxbridge and Throughout the Sd Townships from and after the tenth division of Sd Rights in Sd Townships and also all my Stock and indoor and out Door Moveables and Singularly the Remaining part of my Estate That I have Not Heretofore Given away of whatsoever Sort or Denomination it may be of Which I the Sd Testator Shall Die Seized and Possessed of.
And I Make appoint and ordain my Sd Son Jesse Wheelock Sole Executor of This my will in Witness Whereof I the Sd Benjamin Wheelock have Set my Hand and Seal to this my last Will and testament this Twenty third Day of May in the Sixtenth Year of the Reign of George the Third and in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Six.

March 5 1777 personally appeared the above named Seth Taft and Aaron Everett two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will & made solemn oath that they saw the testator sign seal & heard him (?) declare and publish the foregoing to be his last will and testament and then they sign their names in the testator presence and in the presence of each other and in the presence the other subscribing Witness and that at the time of executing this will he was in their opinion of a sound disposing mind.
