I think you may be looking for the townland of Clonoura which is situated
North East of Cashel, in the old parish of Fennor - union of Urlingford. The
Switzer name came to the area of Slieveardagh around 1772-73 when Sir
William Barker of Kilcooly Abbey invited Palatine colonists from Rathkeale
Co. Limerick on to his estate. The majority of Palatine families settled in
the townlands of Newpark and Bawnlea and one of the first leases was made
out to a John Switzer, Adam Baker, Sebastian Laurence, Danile Ruckle and
Paul Smeltzer. During the 1830's there was a sustained increase in the
emigration of Palatine families to Canada and the Switzers of Newpark Co.
Tipperary were one such family that epitomised this mass migration. Mary
Switzer Cowin was a member of this Newpark Switzer family. Her brother
Martin Switzer secured 100 acres of land in Toronto township in 1819 and he
was subsequently joined in the neighbourhood of Streetsville by his brother
Samuel who brought his wife and 9 children with him in 1824. Their nephew
Joseph Switzer followed them in 1827 and brought with him three generations
of his family. Mary went in 1831 and her brother Tobias also went out in
1831 with his wife. I believe the Switzers generally settled around the
townships of Toronto, Trafalgar and Esquesing. This was the same Switzer
family who also gave us Switzers department store in Dublin.
As for a burial place.... best bet would be Kilcooly Abbey itself as it
stood on the immediate Barker Ponsonby estate, otherwise I believe that
there was a Methodist Palatine chapel somewhere between the townlands of
Newpark and Bawnlea and this would seem a more likely burial place.
Considering also that the original John Switzer came from Ballingrane Co.
Limerick you may find that some members of the family returned to Limerick
for burial.
If I can be of any more assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me off
list.
Regards,
Joan Keogh

# ID: I0232
# Name: John Switzer Of New PARK
# Sex: M
# Birth: 1743 in France
# Death: 1794 in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland
# Fact 1: See Note Page
# Note:
Switzers all my fathers were
I, a Switzer lived here
Travelled still, till worn with age
I finished this worlds pilgrimage
In the cheerful month of May,
On the blesses Ascention Day,
A thousand with four hundred and seven,
I took my journey home to heaven
Not as difficult as I thought it would be. I have the whole lineage on your Switzer family...in fact, we are related. Hi Cousin!!!
John Switzer b. 1743 in France - d. 1794 in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland. He is buried at Old Church of Ireland Graveyard, Kilcooly Abbey. During the reign of Louis XIV, three Switzer brothers; John, James, & Christopher, left France because of religious persecution. They enlisted under the banner of William, Prince of Orange, were officers, and participated in the battle of the Boyne. For their aid they were allotted portions of the territory. The father of these 3 boys was Nathaniel Switzer. John settled in County Tipperary, Ireland. In 1773 he
moved from Ballingrane to Newpart, Kilcooly. James, who may have been married to Elizabeth Dolmage, died in 1803. He was the oldest of the brothers. He and Elizabeth has a son, James, Jr. who died in 1806, unmarried.
Christopher, the youngest of the 3 brothers (1755-1780) was unmarried. Therefore, the only decendants of this Switzer family are from John (1743-1794). John married Mary Sparrow and had three children: Joseph, Samuel, &
Mary. After Mary's death, he married Ann Ryan...they had: Christopher, Nathaniel, Martin, Philip, Peter, Anne(Nancy), John, Tobias, George, Rachel, and Jeremiah.
Next generation to come...
"the Switzers who came to the Townships of Toronto, Trafalgar, and Esquesing in Peel and Halton Counties, in the 1820's are known as the "Tipperary Switers" ...The Tipperary Switzers are descendants of John Switzer (1743-1794) who leased land from Sir William Barker at Kilcooly, County tipperary, Ireland in October 1773...John Switzer established his household at New Park Farm near Commons, Kilcooly and he is buried in the old Church of Ireland graveyard at Kilcooly Abbey."

Switzer-1622 and Switzer-277 do not represent the same person because: I changed the information to the son John as the other person didn't want to merge our files.
