Biography

Amelia Hersey Jones was born at Edmunds, Maine, 17 May 1812, the daughter of Benjamin Richards Jones and Mehitable Lewis Hersey; ^[1] died of old age at Calais, Maine, 4 Oct 1893, ae 81y 4m 17d ^[2] (but note that Vital Records from the Eastport Sentinel, citing the issue of 12 Apr 1893, reports, "In Calais, 7 Apr 1893, Mrs. Gilbert Foster, 84y"); ^[3] buried in the Dennysville Cemetery; ^{[4] [5]} married (1) at Dennsyville, 20 Aug 1834, Bela R. Reynolds, ^[6] born at Plantation No. 2 (Dennysville), Maine, 19 Sep 1797, the son of Jonathan Reynolds and Persis Wilder; ^[7] drowned at Dennysville, 3 May 1853, ^[8] and is buried in the Dennysville Cemetery. ^{[9] [10]} He had married (1) at Dennysville, 31 Aug 1824, Deborah Wilder, ^{[11] [12]} born at Dennysville, Maine, 26 May 1804, the daughter of Ebenezer Cushing Wilder and Abigail Ayer; died there, 26 Jan 1834 (FindAGrave), or 30 Jan 1838, ^[13] and buried in the Dennysville Cemetery. ^[14] Amelia married (2) at Dennysville, 10 Apr 1859, Gilbert D. Foster, ^[15] born at Plantation No. 15 (Cooper), Maine, 2 Feb 1813 (FindAGrave), ^[16] son of Elias Foster and Lucy Dorman; died at Pembroke, Maine, 10 Apr 1891, and buried in the Dennsyville Cemetery. ^{[17] [18]} Gilbert had married (1) at Fredericton, New Brunswick, 3 Dec 1837 (mistranscribed as "30" Dec 1837), Isabella DeForest, he then of Hopewell Parish and she of Fredericton, ^[19] born in New Brunswick c1814, the daughter of Salmon DeForest and Anne (_____); ^[20] died at Cooper, 7 Apr 1857, and buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Pembroke, Maine. ^[21]

Bela's widow, Amelia, was appointed guardian of their children, 29 Dec 1853. ^[22]
