MacDonald-1540 and Murcha McCain-1 appear to represent the same person because: Hello ,I am Nicholas McKean. I was hoping to reach out to anyone with more information about this fuzzy period. It is my understanding that McKeans such as myself (and the other hundreds of spellings) descend from the MacDonalds. The name originating from the Maciains of Ardnamurchan, and they were often called Mac Eáin and MacDonald interchangeably, , sometimes spelt ,Mac Iain , derived from Iain Sprangach MacDonald himself. Around the time of the names I present, the clan began to greatly disperse, change names and spellings all over. I have traced my line directly through Samuel McKean ( PA senator), who came along from fathers from antrim ireland, and ardnamurchan before that. He had a great grandfather from ardnamurchan, named william mckeen. perhaps william macian mckeen, whom he descended from. Thomas McKean, a signer of the declaration of independence and former governor is also of this line. Other websites seem to suggest this william was a son of a John og murcha maciain. sometimes spelled Mac Eáin john og murcha (it appears with macdonald, maciain, mckeon, mckeen, as well) . This is where where the lairds end it seems, and dispersal began among this time. This william maciain mckeen, to john og murcha figures seem a constant to their somewhat known heritage, with strong intersecting locations from the stories of the clans dispersal. Could these figures i present perhaps be the same person? It seems there is a strong connection here, whether they are the same or perhaps close relatives, one being a son or nephew at the time of the maciain of ardnamurchan clans dispersal
