Biography

" Charity Gott married William Rich and settled on Outer Long Island , where they have many descendants. " History of Swans island page 109.

Noted: [Outer Long Island] County Hancock County (set off from Lincoln County in 1789) Organized 1840 as Long Island Plantation for election purposes from Long Island, Duck Island, Black Island, Placentia Island, Pond Island, Calf Island, Black Island, and Harbor Island Incorporated1857 as the town of Islandport; organization surrendered in 1858 Reorganized 1858 as Long Island Plantation Incorporated 1979 as the town of Frenchboro

"The main trails are actually old logging roads. These dirt roads run to Eastern Beach, the Beaver Pond, Southern Cove and partway to Richs Head , the island's most distinguishing geographic feature and its easternmost point. The roundish Head, connected to the main island by a narrow neck of rocks, is exposed to the open sea. Settled by William Rich and his family in the 1820s, Richs Head hosted the island's only other village for almost 80 years . It was abandoned by the turn of the century. Only the slight depressions of hand-dug cellars near former farmland suggest that three generations of pioneers lived, worked and raised families there." The Life and Times of a Maine Island
