He settled on a 500 acre tract west of Harris Ferry (Harrisburg) at Kingston, near what would become Carlise, ca 1738.[4] Kingston, now Kingstown, is in present Silver Spring Township formed 1787, formerly East Pennsboro Township formed 1745.[5] He built a church meetinghouse called the Junkin Tent, where the first Covenanter communion was held. The service was administered by the Rev. Cuthbertson on August 23, 1752.[6] The Rev. Cuthbertson baptised most of the Junkin Children. Paternal line Y-chromosome DNA test-takers:
Researching my McJunkin bloodline of N. Ireland to Pennsylvania, came across tax records for this Joseph Junkin in Cumberland County microfilm sources starting 1750. Inasmuch as Joseph settled this land west of the Susquehanna River much earlier, he would be listed in Lancaster County tax records as well. There are likely more records on this film if descendants wish to continue searching. This was not my McJunkin bloodline. Cumberland County township history when he settled was Pennsborough Township 1735 part of Lancaster County, then 1736 East Pennsboro was then formed still in Lancaster County Tax records, then by 1750 Cumberland County was established west of the Susquehanna River. Map of present Cumberland County highlight Townships 1-6, which were formed from the original East Pennsboro Twp. East Pennsboro included Silver Spring Township (site of historic Junkin Stone home, Kingstown, Cumberland County, PA) sourced in profile.
