Augustin Cyr is a descendant of an Acadian

Augustin was born in 1796. He was the son of Jean-Baptiste Cyr &Marguerite Violette ^[1] When Augustin Cyr was born on 12 September 1796, in Saint-Basile, Madawaska, New Brunswick, Canada, his father, Jean-Baptiste Cyr, was 28 and his mother, Marguerite Genevieve Violette, was 22. He married Marie Rose Michaud on 17 February 1824, in Saint-Basile, Madawaska, New Brunswick, Canada. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Madawaska, Aroostook, Maine, United States throughout his life. ^[2] After his wife, Marguerite Violette died in 1877, ^[3] Augustin lived with his eldest son, Thaddee Cyr & his family. ^[4] He died on 22 July 1881, in Saint David, Madawaska, Aroostook, Maine, United States, at the age of 84, ^[5].and was buried in Saint David, Madawaska, Aroostook, Maine, United States. ^[6]

Research Notes

History, 1745-1822 in Madawaska Co, N.B. Following the death of his grandfather, Jean Baptiste Cyr m. Judith Guerette Dumont, and his brothers continued to petition for the return of their confiscated land, but they were refused. They asked for land in the Keswick area and were again refused. In the Spring of 1785 a group of Acadians, including JEAN-BAPTISTE CYR, finally obtained permission to establish a settlement in the Madawaska area. This group of settlers are credited with planting the first "Acadian Cross", on the south shore of the St. John River. Land Grant records of October 1,1790, indicate that JEAN-BAPTISTE CYR was granted 260 Acres of Land (Lot 4), on the south shore of the St. John River, in the State of Maine. *A DESCRIPTION OF THE MADAWASKA TERRITORY* The Madawaska Territory is located both in the Province of New Brunswick and the State of Maine, at a point where these two territories border on the Province of Quebec. Spread evenly on both sides of the St. John River, the territory extends 150 miles from Grand Falls New Brunswick to Sept-Isle Quebec. It varies in width from 40 to 80 miles forming an area of 9000 square miles. It is in this area that many of our forefathers including JEAN-BAPTISTE CYR, resided.
