Hi Mark,

Thank you for making me feel so welcome. With the spelling of Cary in your surname, it appears most likely that you are descended directly from the Norman line of Cary that is written about in uncertain terms to have come from Adam de Kari of Devonshire. I wonder if many people know of the Google tool N-gram? I did an Ngram search of the alternate Carey, Cary, Carye spellings for both British English and American English publications between 1600 and 2008 and came up with Carey as the most frequent, followed by Cary, with some traces of Carye in the 1700-1800s in the US and the name continuing in British publications until last century I'll place the links to the Ngrams on the next message as it has a lot of characters. It is interesting to track the frequency of usage this way.

Hi Mark,

I wrote the biography for Henry VIII, and I too noticed the error in Mary being attached to Henry as his wife. I've rectified this and messaged the member who made the error, and posted a general comment on Henry's profile explaining the situation. This same person also created what I believe to be a duplicate of one of Mary's daughters, Catherine Carey, with the father attached as Henry. I've proposed a merge of the two, as well as their husbands. It seems that this WikiTreer has created an entire duplicated line. I just thought I would let you know, seeing as you voiced your concern on Mary's profile in regards to her mistaken attachment to Henry :) Regards, Amy Utting, WikiTree Leader.

On the error list is William Cary, b. ? Chesterfield, d. 1638 in KY. I believe this is William Cary, bapt.3 Jan 1576-1577, St. Nicolas Parish, Bristol, Avon, England, died in Briston and buried in St. Thomas Churchyard, Bristol England on 2 Oct 1638. The dates are from photocopies of the church records. We are probably related as I come from his brother John, their son Miles, his son, Henry, Anne Cary m. 1. M. Langhorne, 2 B. Harrison, 3. Charles Stuckey. I come from Maurice Langhorne's son, John, and Ben Harrison's son, Benjamin. The Immigrant Cary, in this line, would be Miles, bapt 30 Jan 1622/23, All Saints Church, Bristol. England, d. 1647 Windmill Point, Warwick Co VA.

Mark,

I'm the same way! Whenever I start on a line, I always have to finish it or it will bother me haha. Plus it's great when you can finally crack a family mystery - especially one as old as being from the 1700s!! I'm the only one I've tested so far of my family but I'm hoping to test both of my parents as soon as I can as well as my great-aunt. My kit number is M742663. When I compared mine to both yours and your father's, it said there were "no matching DNA segments" but when I checked to see if there were kits we both matched, I came back with a bunch of results. I'm so happy to have a cousin to work this out with honestly!! Maybe we'll be able to figure it out! I'm the same! I started all of this a few years ago just prior to turning 18.

Sincerely, Sharon

Mark, I completely agree about the Cary/Careys! If only we can pinpoint an ancestor from one group or the other, we can confirm things! That would be a huge help. Hmm. Are you on GEDmatch? Or maybe MyHeritage, FTDNA, or even 23andMe? I'd love to see if we match (although depending on how far back the connection would be, it may be that we didn't inherit the same chunk of Cary/Carey DNA). If we're a match, then maybe we can figure out what cousins match us both and possibly confirm or dis-confirm :)
