In August 1860, the U.S. Census recorded farmer James Taylor, age 33, and Bersheba Taylor, age 30, in Northern Division, Randolph County, Alabama. Others in the household were Berzilla Taylor, 30; Samantha Taylor, 9; James H. Taylor, 7; Florena Taylor, 8; and Elizabeth Taylor, 3, and Vincent Taylor, 6 months old. The elder James Taylor was born in Georgia, Bersheba and Berzilla were born in North Carolina, and all of the children were born in Alabama. [2]
James was born in 1825. He is the son of James Taylor and Mary Wilson.
James Taylor of Co. E, 38th Indiana Infantry, died at Gen'l. Hosp. No. 2 in Nashville, TN on Jan. 18, 1863 of a gunshot wound received at the Battle of Stones River, TN on Dec. 31, 1862. His widow Elizabeth applied for a federal pension on July 27, 1863 (app. #28,447 cert. #12,483).
