Biography

James was born in 1848. He was the son of John Hampton and Mary Henderson. He passed away about 1931.

James & his sister Sarah Jane Hampton (and her husband) immigrated to Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand on the ship Charlotte Jane, arriving on January 1871. He was a farm hand, doing cropping work in 1874 at Ashburton, New Zealand. He was a farmer from 1876 to 1899 at Tinwald, Ashburton, New Zealand. He was a farmer from 1899 to 1931 at Grove Farm, Wilkins Road, Tinwald, Ashburton, New Zealand.[1]
