Stephen Rogers, son of John Rogers, Jr. & Sarah Wing, was born 7 Feb 1748/9 in Marshfield, Plymouth County, MA. [1] [2] "Stephen Rogers soon of John Rogers and Sarah his wife was borne ye 7 of ye 12 mo. 1748." (Prior to 1752, the 12th month was February. See Converting Julian Genealogy Dates. [3]

Life

Stephen Rogers was an early Quaker settler at the Easton monthly meeting.[6] Stephen and his wife Lydia were noted as members of the Easton monthly meeting, residing at Whitecrick circa 1778.[6]

Stephen operated the first grist mill in Danby, VT. [7]

ROGERS, STEPHEN brother of Wing Rogers, also from Marshfield, Mass., came in 1770 and settled on the farm occupied by J.T. Griffith. He also owned the farm now belonging to H. Dillingham. He m. Elizabeth Lapham. The house in which he lived was burned a few years since. It was built in 1790, and was the first two story house erected in town, being considered the best house in town for that day. He also became a large land holder, and was a prominent and efficient man, and contributed essentially towards the prosperity of the town. His name will be found intimately associated with its early settlement. He was another of the early members of the Quaker society. He was a man of exemplary religious character, of good natural abilities and of much activity and enterprise in early life, upright, intelligent and honorable in all his dealings, and beloved by all for the nobleness of his nature and conduct. He died in 1835 (sic: should be 1826; the 1835 date is confused with a cousin, also named Stephen Rogers, son of Joseph Rogers, who married Alice Estes.), aged 85 ; his wife in 1840, aged 80. Their children were Aaron, Joseph, Sarah, Hannah, John, Ruth, Stephen, Elizabeth and Sylvia. [8] Hannah m. John Keyes and settled in Peru, N.Y. ; Stephen m. Anna Emmerson and settled in Mt. Holly. From thence he removed to Pultney, Vt., where he died. Of his children are Oliver, Asa, Amos, John, Charles and David. Amos went to California in 1854, and now resides in Oregon." [4]
