Conrad Busch is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A017371.

He served as a matross in the Revolutionary war under Capt. John Doughty and Col. John Lamb, Regt of Artillery, New York Line.[1][2] A matross is a soldier of artillery, who ranked next below a gunner. The duty of a matross was to assist the gunners in loading, firing and sponging the guns. They were provided with firelocks, and marched with the store-wagons, acting as guards. In the U.S., a matross ranked as a private of artillery.[3] Conrad Bush was at the Battle of Trenton and Princeton, as well as Yorktown and was at Valley Forge with Washington.

In 1790, George Coonradt Bush was living in Mamakating, Ulster County, New York, which is now in Sullivan County, New York. The household included 1 white male over 16, 1 white male under 16, and 3 white females; no slaves.

On 11 July 1791, Conrad Bush was issued bounty land warrant 6870 in Pompey, Onondaga, New York.[4] He was the only revolutionary war veteran to settle his awarded lot, no. 47 consisting of 600 acres, in the Town of Pompey.[5]

In 1800, he was living in Pompey, Onondaga, New York, USA, with his spouse and 9 younger white males; no slaves.[6]

He was nearly blind in his later years, but always dressed in his old uniform when he voted. In 1826, he was recognized by General Lafayette on the latter's return to America.

In his Will dated 10 December 1842, Conrad Bush leaves his estate to his wife, Mary, and upon her death it is to be divided equally amongst his children or their descendants. He appointed his three sons, William, Jacob, and Thomas as executors.[7] He died on 19 December 1854 and was buried on his farm in Pompey, Onondaga, New York. His Will was proved on 6 March 1855, City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA.[7]
