Biography

Rev. Ebenezer Parkman was born in 1703 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of William Parkman and Elizabeth (Adams) Parkman.

He graduated from Harvard University. AB 1703, AM 1724.[1]

In 1723, he began to preach, and twice during that summer occupied the Westborough pulpit. In 1724, he and Rev. Jacob Eliot were nominated in a Town meeting as candidates for the position of Town Minister of Westborough, and he, proving the successful candidate, was installed nine months later, over the little church organized just before.

Those nine months had been very busy ones to the young man. Only a month had passed since he had become twenty-one years of age. he had built himself a house on the bleak hill-top where the Lyman School now stands, and he had married a wife in July - Mary Champney, of Cambridge.

He first married Mary (Champney) Parkman in 1724. Together, they were the parents of Ebenezer Parkman II and Lucy Parkman. His first wife passed away in 1735. Most of his children bore the names of his brothers and sisters.

He married Hannah (Breck) Parkman in 1737. They had eleven children born between Dec 28, 1738 and 6 Jan 1761.[1]

He founded the Congregational Church in Westborough, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay in 1724.

He passed away in 1782 in Westborough, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. He was buried at Memorial Cemetery in Westborough, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.Cutter, William Richard.
