Private William Matteson enlisted on July 6, 1780, and served until Dec 12, 1780.[1] A second enlistment was from Aug 26 to December of 1781. He served under Captains Elisha Heart, Steven Betts, and in the Regiments of Colonels Wyllys Herman Swift, and Ebenezer Huntington, Connecticut Line.

William was born on 24 January 1762 in Montville, New London Co., Connecticut, USA. He was the son of David Matteson and Sarah (Corey) Matteson.[2]
