Lehr, the Stone Arabia settlement, was made by Palatines, beginning in
1713. In the Dutch Church records, which go back to 1739, the only Lehrs
mentioned are: (l) Lena, wife of Peter Lewis; (2) Eva Lehr or Lehrin, wife of
Henry Lewis; and (3) EHsabeth Lehrin, wife of David Bottman, whose son
David was bap. in Feb., 1751, with Peter Lewis and Hellena Lehrin as sponsors.
Lena. Eva and Elisabeth were probably sisters.
Among the " Heads of Palatine Families " on the West side of the Hudson in the winter of 1710, was John Leher, his family consisting of i man, i lad g to 15, I woman, i maid g to 15, i girl of 8 or under. Johan Leyer was one of the Palatines from Queensbury who volunteered against Canada in 171 1 (Docu- mentary Hist., N. Y.). A family named Lawyer, prominent in Schoharie since 171 1, is descended from a John Lawyer or Layer, a Palatine immigrant, who may be the same man.
