Biography

Eliza Sayer was born 29 Jun 1834 in Shropham, Norfolk, the daughter of WIlliam and Mary Holls (or Halls). She was baptised on 5 Jul 1834[1].

In 1841 she lived with her parents William and Mary, sister Sarah and brother William in Shropham[2]. By 1851 she was a dressmaker living at Stow Road in Shropham with her mother, sister and brother[3].

On 13 May 1857 the Sayer household suffered a burglary. John Harrison stole a shawl (worth 7s.) belonging to Eliza and a handkerchief, pair of trousers and waistcoat belonging to her brother William John. The thief pleaded guilty in July and was sentenced to four years[4].

In 1861 she lived alone with her mother at Low Road, Shropham[5].

In May 1861 she gave birth to a son, William Charles Sayer[6][7]. He was baptised 19 Jun[8].

On the 1871 Census she lived at Low Road, Shropham, with her son and mother[9]. In 1881 she lived alone with her son at Watton Road, Shropham[10]. Then in 1891 she lived alone at Low Road, Shropham, still a dressmaker[11].

Eliza died in 1893, aged 59. She was buried on 17 Feb in Shropham[12][13][14].
