Biography

Anne Leffingwell, born on January 25, 1680, at Norwich, Connecticut, was the third of 9 children and second of five daughters born to Sergt. (Ensign) Thomas Leffingwell and Mary Bushnell. ^[1]

Anne married Dr. Caleb ("Captain") Bushnell, her first cousin (son of Richard Bushnell II and Elizabeth Adgate), in Norwich on January 9, 1700. They had six children.

Her husband died on February 18, 1724/5, and is buried in the Old Norwichtown Cemetery; there is a small, broken, unlettered stone next to his. Her findagrave record claims burial in the Winthrop Cemetery in Deep River, CT, but with no photo of any marker.^[2]

Probate

Her will is dated 10 October 1746 and proved on 7 September 1762 in Norwich. She mentions her daughters, Ann, Mary, Abigail, and Zipporah, and her granddaughter Elizabeth, daughter of her daughter Elizabeth Perkins, decd., her grandson John Perkins, son of Elizabeth Perkins, decd., and her son Richard.^[3]

Her date of death 18 August 1762 is recorded in the heading of her inventory which was completed in September 1762 in Norwich with additional inventory recorded in March 1763.^[3]

See note below from "Old Houses". See Lewffingwell Record, p. 41 "Old Houses of Norwich", p. 429, gives her date of death as 1762.

I found a reference to Anne and her husband Caleb in "Old houses of antient town of Norwich, 1660-1800" and only birth date, 1680, and marriage date, 1699-1700 are given. ^[4] I am still looking for "Old Houses of Norwich"
