John Stewart is a member of Clan Stewart.

John Stewart was born about 1728 in County Down, Ireland. He was the first born son of Samuel Stewart and his wife Mary McClay

He came to the Americas with the family in 1735 and on 25 May 1776, he enlisted under Capt. James Grier the Commanding Officer of 1st Pennsylvania Regiment.

He was killed at the battle of Germantown dying on 4 October 1777 and was buried in the Upper Burial Grounds, Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States.

John Stewart was married to Janet Rankin (1708-1797) about 1752 in Pennsylvania, United States.
