Biography

John Craig was born May 24, 1764 in York, Pennsylvania.

Private John Craig served with Virginia Line during the American Revolution.

John Craig is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A201212.

In May 1780, the month he turned 16, he joined a company of mounted riflemen commanded by Captain David Beattie and Robert Edmundson, and in August of that year, he fought in the battle of King's Mountain, in the American Revolutionary War[1]

He died, at the age of 87, on March 24, 1852 in Limestone, Alabama. He is buried at the Old City Cemetery, Athens, Limestone County, Alabama. [2]

Research Notes

From Find A Grave:
Much speculation has been made as to whether Miles Sanderson "Asbury" Craig was the son of John Craig.

In a couple of articles about him, it reads:

"He was either the son of John or William Craig and Elizabeth Sanderson". This article was published in a newspaper from Athens, Alabama.

"His father is unknown." Submitted by: Mamie Craig Brackeen and Researched by: Bettye Harrison, Mamie Bracken.

John Craig was married to Martha when Miles Sanderson "Asbury' Craig was born.
