Rebecca (also known as Rebeckah) Morrison was born before 1735, the daughter of Deacon Halbert Morrison and Jean Steel of Sheepscot Bridge, Lincoln, Maine.
Rebecca was engaged to be married to Captain John Moore (brother of her brother-in-law Samson Moore?). Her feelings toward him apparently changed -- she and James Archibald galloped away from Londonderry on horseback in the evening, and were married by license in the town of Chester (abut 12 miles north of Londonderry). Her relatives were much chagrined, to say nothing of Captain Moore, which may explain why the interlude was recorded.
Until May 30, 1767, James and Rebecca lived on his father's farm, just across the road from that of her father. In May 1767, they sold their property in East Derry and moved from East Derry to Truro, Nova Scotia, where his brother David had settled. This move was discussed as early as 1762, but it was delayed as James was involved in a court case to recover unpaid wages from the Rangers until 1766. The deed of sale of the 70-acre property in NH describes James as a resident on that date. Also in 1767 David requested the Council in Halifax to grant lands to his brother ... who recently had arrived from New England.
James died in 1792. In 1796, Rebecca sold the property in Truro to her daughter Jane (who married Richard Suddick), and moved to Ohio where her daughters Margaret and Rebecca were living with their families. She died at in Truro Township, Franklin County, Ohio, USA after 1798.[1]
