When Sarah Jane Nixon was born on 29 November 1845, in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom, her father, William Millington Nixon, was 31 and her mother, Elizabeth Wood, was 29. She married Joseph Rowe Varcoe on 4 May 1871, in South Australia, Australia. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 18 October 1933, in Hillston, New South Wales, Australia, at the age of 87.

Obituary The death is announced of Mrs. Sarah Varcoe, widow of the late Joseph Rowe Varcoe, a very old resident of the Gunbar-Hillston district. Mr. J. R. Varcoe, who was one of the pioneer settlers at Camp Plain, took a most prominent part in public af fairs during his long life in the district, and was for many years chair man of the Hay Pastures Protection Board. The Varcoe family is inseparably connected with the Gunbar Hiilston area, and much sympathy will be extended to them in that wide district at the loss of Mrs. Varcoe. That lady had only been ailing a few days, and passed away in her sleep[1]
