There was an article in The Morning News, Wilmington, DE, Sunday, 29 July 1984, Page H4, that dealt with Delaware trivia. One of the trivia items listed was the following:
"Delaware had a governor who was also once mayor of Wilmington. His name was Walter W. Bacon but Bacon never allowed anyone to spell out his full name because he despised his middle name, Wolfkiel. He rarely told anyone that he had been given the name by his parents in recognition of a friend by that name. But no one has ever since really explained just who this Wolfkiel was." Walter Franklin Wolfkiel
This information was attributed to a book published in 1984 by Roger A. Martin, titled A History of Delaware Through its Governors 1776 to 1984.
