Burris was the son of Samuel J. and Anna McCann Milam. Burris was born in Hickman Co., TN and died in Mud, Travis TX.

Burris was married three times to: Rhoda Jane Parhan, Basheba Rebecka Hudson and Eliza Jane Johnson

Burris served as a private in the 27th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, Co. K. and as a private in Harrell's Battalion, Arkansas Cavalry, Co. C.

Burris Milam was born on October 6, 1820. He is listed as Bartley Burris Milam in many family trees, but there is no evidence that he was a Bartley. This has caused much confusion with records (see research notes below).

In 1850, Burris (29) was living in Jefferson, Arkansas.[1]

In 1860, Burris was living in City of Austin, Travis, Texas. [2]

In 1870, Burris was the head of household in Travis, Texas.[3]

In 1880, married, Farmer, head of household in Justice Precinct 5, Travis, Texas, United States. [4]

Burris died on May 17, 1903, aged 82. He was buried in Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.[5]

Research Notes

Although many family trees list Burris as "Bartley Burris", there are no records that list Burris as having been a Bartley. Every record of his (including his tombstone at Find A Grave) list him as Burris. Both Burris and Bartlett are names found throughout the Milam family records as far back as the 1700s.

This source is left on this profile until it can be moved to the proper person, but is not referenced as a source for this man. This is more likely the Bartlett Milam, born 1844 in Arkansas. He was the son of Henry Milam and Susannah Campbell.

Burkett-1190 Danita (Burkett) Zanrè
Milum-32 and Milam-232 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same birth and death dates. One has no other family listed. Please note, there are some important notes in the Milam-232 about a mix-up of the Bartlett/Bartleys in Arkansas. I do not believe that this Burris Milam is the one in the Arkansas Civil War records. I believe he was the son of Henry Milam Milam-1033 and Susan Campbell.
