Biography

Susannah Tisdale was born in Taunton, Massachusetts, the daughter of James Tisdale and Tabitha Cobb.^[1] She married Oliver Maxcy Bullock (1757-1832) of Rehoboth; they had eight children together, and she died February 20, 1847, in Rehoboth.^[2] They are buried in Stevens Corner Cemetery in Rehoboth.^[3]

Robert L Tisdale gives a list of nine children which differs from the eight in Oliver's probate, and lists Oliver Maxey as two people: Oliver, and Maxie. ^[7]

No record of the marriage of Susanna Bullock, wife of Oliver Bullock, seems to exist; it may have been destroyed by fire with many other Taunton records. However, there is considerable evidence that she is the daughter Susanna of James Tisdale (1741-1811) and Tabitha Cobb (1749-1793) of Taunton, Massachusetts:

Susanna Tisdale's younger half-brother, the Rev. James Tisdale (son of James Tisdale and his second wife Abigail Freeman) and his wife Margaretta, and their daughter Eliza are found living in the households of Susanna's sons Joseph Tisdale Bullock ^[8] and James Sullivan Bullock ^[9] in the 1860 Illinois federal census.

Furthermore, her age at death is right for Susanna Tisdale; her children Joseph and Malinda were given the middle name of "Tisdale;" her children have names traditional in the Tisdale family, and Tisdale names recurr in their children.
