Dirck Van Vechten was born July 15, 1699 in Somerset county, New Jersey. During the American Revolutionary War, his home was used by General Nathaniel Green, appointed by General George Washington as the commander of the Continental Army in the southern theater. [1]
Dirck Van Vechten is honored for his Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A119071. DAR Records indicate that Dirck died November 29, 1781, in Somerset county, New Jersey and that he had been a husband of three wives. His first wife was Judith Brochols, his second was Barbara A. Wichaut, and his third was Sarah Middah. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, Michiel Van Vechten, who married Elizabeth La Grange; and of his daughter Margaret Van Vechten, who married Joseph Crane. He married, first, Barbara Antonides on November 2, 1719 at the Reformed Dutch Church, Flatbush, Kings County, New York. He married, second, Judith Brockholst in 1726.[3]
