Mary "Polly" Sneed was born around 1793, probably in Wake County, North Carolina, to Robert Sharpe Snead.
Her father is listed on the 1790 and 1800 Census in Wake County, NC.
She entered into a marrige bond with Alsey Doby on 4 Dec 1806 in Wake County, NC. Some typed records list the bond year as 1800, but the original, hand-written marriage bond shows the year as 1806.[1] Additionally, she would have been only 7 years old in 1800. The exact marriage date is not known. They had 9 or 10 children: Isham Doby, John Doby, Mettie/Mindy Doby, James Washington Doby, Jackson Doby, Daniel Doby, Anne Doby, Thomas William Doby or William Hinton Doby, Emeline Doby, and Edith Doby (Edith maybe Emeline's child).
Alsey is listed on the 1830 and 1840 Census in Davidson County, North Carolina.
On the 1850 Census, she was 57 years old and lived with her husband and children in Southern Division, Davidson County, NC. She could not read or write. Her birthplace is listed as North Carolina.
On the 1860 Census, she was 60 years old and lived with her husband in South Division (Jackson Hill post office), Davidson County, NC. Her birthplace is listed as Virginia.
There are no records for her or Alsey after the 1860 Census.
