Biography

Thomas Pepys was son of John Pepys of Cottenham in Cambridgeshire and his first wife, Edith (Talbot) Pepys. [1] He was one of two children named Thomas by his parents. Thomas was the elder of these. We know this as Apollo Pepys in his 1644 will, describes the other Thomas (who married Kezia Day) as "Thomas Pepys the younger of my two late bretherin of that name". [2] As there were two sons named Thomas, they were commonly known as "the black" and "the red" to distinguish between them. [3]

He died after 1630. [4]
