Biography

John R. New Sr. was the son of John New (b abt 1762 in Massachusetts, according to his Revolutionary War Pension Application) and Salome Russell.

John married first, on November 7, 1811, in Cornwall, Addison, Vermont, to Lydia Sperry, daughter of Levi Sperry and Lydia Kinney. These are their eight children:

3. Levi Sperry New (1820 - 1887)
4. Charles Jackson New (1822 - 1904)
5. Almina New Brewer (1825 - 1883)

7. Lydia Sperry New Shaw (1829 - 1856)
8. Nelson Henry New (1831 - 1910)

John married 2nd, on January 17, 1834 in Hampton, Washington, New York, to Mary "Polly" Warren, daughter of Caleb D. Warren and Rachel Webster. Their children were

1. Lucy A. New Clark (1835 - 1858) married William Clark
2. Varanus Williams New (1839 - 1862) died during the Civil War and is buried at Yorktown National Cemetery , Tomb No. 1399.

John died in 1883 and is buried at Hampton Hill Cemetery Hampton, Washington County, New York
