Louis Léopold Sigisbert Hugo, fils de Joseph Hugo, maître menuisier, et de Jeanne Marguerite Michaud, est né le 15 novembre 1773 à Nancy. Il a été baptisé le lendemain à Saint-Epvre, avec pour parrain Joseph Bechet avocat à la cour, et pour marraine Marthe Elisabeth Bechet[1].
