William was born before 1816 in Surry County, North Carolina. [1]
He was the son of John Zachary and Sarah Roberts. He passed away before 1916 (estimate, life span less than 100 years).
DOB is inferred from DOB of younger brother Jonathon, who was born in 1816. "The following January [1832] the whole family, minus son William, packed up their belongings in a six-horse wagon and made the permanent move to Cashiers Valley." [3]
"On November 14, 1846, Col. Zachary deeded parcels of land to his three youngest sons, Jonathan, Mordecai, and Woodford." [4]
William might also have been the eldest son. If so, he probably would have been born in 1802 or before. following the pattern of about 2 years between children. It would also make sense if he was the eldest son and named after John's father who also was named William.
Note: His spouse is said to have been Virginia Cox. Within William's probate records (he died intestate) his widow Virginia was mentioned.[6]
