The "Croft History" of Vatisker (Gaelic - Bhataisgeir), produced by Bill Lawson for the Back Historical Society (Gaelic - Comann Eachdraidh Sgìr a'Bhac) was published in 2019. It includes genealogical information for this gentleman and other members of his family. They are also mentioned in "Tong: the Story of a Lewis Village," produced by the Tong Historical Society in 1984. Alexander was born at 25 Vatisker in the district of Back, Isle of Lewis. He married Ann Macleod of 6 Aird Tong, Isle of Lewis, and they ended up living at 25 Aird Tong.

Both of these villages are in the parish of Stornoway - but the parish also includes many other villages from Tolsta round to the tip of the Point peninsula, and over the years dozens of "Alexander Macleod"s have been born there. It is all very well for people to "correct" the addresses to include the parish name of Stornoway, but removing the village names will create serious difficulties in the future when researchers try to identify exactly which "Alexander Macleod" or "Donald Macleod" or "Christina Macleod" the Wikitree entry belongs to.

Alexander Mcleod was born 10 May 1830 in STORNOWAY,ROSS AND CROMARTY,SCOTLAND to William Mcleod and Christian Macleod^[1] He died in 1900^[2]

He married Ann MacLeod in 1853.^[3] He was the father of Malcolm MacLeod^[4][5]
