Biography
Dr. John "Jack" Jefferson Franklin was the son of James Rawlings Franklin II (1778-1846) & Prudence "Prudy" McKain (1778-1879), born 10 Apr 1806, Bellevue Plantation, Sumner Co. TN, died 21 May 1875, Sonora, CA. Josiah Ramsey Franklin (1808-1875) was his brother, and James Franklin & Mary Lauderdale were their paternal grandparents.
He m1. Elizabeth Sophia Cage (1809-1835), daughter of Reuben Cage (1772-1853) & Mary "Polly" Morgan (1782-1833), on 16 Dec 1829 in Sumner Co. TN & had four children: St. Wilhelmina F. Franklin, James Cage Franklin, John Reuben Franklin & Sophia Prudence Franklin.
He later lived in New Orleans, Texas, and finally California where he was senator in the state legislature. He married twice more, 2nd to Sarah J. Pierce (two children) and 3rd to Philadelphia spinster.[1]
