Biography

1826 --- Maury Co., TN. Marriage bond between Ezekiah Waldrop and Sarah Knight. The writer really messed the names up on this bond.-CW Actual Text - Know all me that we Ezikiah Wardrup & Silas Wheat of the county of Maury and the State of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto the Governor of the said state, for the time being in the sum of 1250 dollars to be paid to his Excellency, his successors in office or assigns, to which payment well & truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators, and each and every of us and them, jointly and severally by these presents, Witness our hands and seals this 14th day of July 1826. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas Ezekiah Waldrop hath prayed and obtained a license to marry Sarah Knight. Now if the said Sarah Knight be an actual resident in the aforesaid county, and there shall not appear any lawful cause why the said Eligah Waldrop and Sarah Waldrop should not be joined (unreadable) Holy Matrimony, as husband and wife, then this obligation to be void & of no effect. Notes from jd - The 1860 Holmes Co. census, HH #871, verifies that Lucretia Waldrop and husband James Foster were living with Sarah Waldrop, Hezekiah's widow. James was not the son, as indicated in the database, but rather the son-in-law. Lucretia and James' surname was Foster, not Waldrop.

Another mystery is that Hezekiah's sons Hezekiah, Jr. and Napoleon were living next door to Sarah in that census--HH #872. They were living in the household of Asa Ellis (19, b.TN) and Sarah Ellis (18,b. MS). One would suspect Sarah Ellis was Hezekiah's daughter, but I can't fit her into the lineup of children, and she is not in his household in the 1840 census. I do not know who these Ellises were. Son Claiborne also lived in Maury and Giles Co., Tn. Some of Ezekiah's Maury Co., Tn records are mislabeled "Ezekiel". Ezekiel was never in Maury Co. --6/99, jd
